#106/128 - Attack of the Koopa Kids!

(Click above to view full size)

I finally got around to the Koopa Kids!

The earliest memories I have of drawing are of copying illustrations from the Super Mario World instruction manual, and these guys were always my favorite subjects. I had originally planned to dedicate an entire week to depicting duels with each individual Koopaling for 128 Marios, but as I figured such a self-indulgent detour so close to the end would leave people cold, I tried to cram them all into one picture instead. The final product's a bit more rushed and crowded than I'd have liked, but there you are.

...wow, these posts sure are getting text-heavy! I'll try to cut down on the rambling.

#29/128 - Mario: Unfit to Lead?

(Click above to view full size)

In honor of the upcoming U.S. election, the next few Marios will be politically charged. For instance, today's installment explicates some critical flaws in the Mushroom Kingdom's current administration. The cartoonist believes these deficiencies are self-evident, but not so much so that they do not benefit from wanton labeling and distortion.

This is actually another inked piece, but I photoshopped a bit of color on there as well.

#11/128 - Cape Mario

Powerup #2/Many.

Also my second pen & ink Mario. Composition's not so great, and I kind of botched a few of the details, but overall I think it turned out okay. Especially considering I had literally never drawn the Princess before!

As an aside, I've started marking my personal favorite posts with the label "Top Marios". I'll try to make it easier to access them from the front page in the future.

#3/128 - One Of Those Days

(Click above to view full size)

I love Mario's crouching animation in Super Mario Bros. 3. He seems like he's trying to get away from it all, you know? Maybe there's a little Mario in us all...

So I did this one using traditional media (i.e. pen & paper). I vastly prefer drawing this way, but it's much more time-consuming. Maybe I will try for one in this style per week.
